Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to enhance breast volume, improve shape, or address asymmetry. The procedure usually involves the placement of saline or silicone implants, either beneath the breast tissue or under the chest muscle, depending on the patient’s anatomy and treatment plan.

Some individuals consider breast augmentation to restore volume changes after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss, while others may seek improvement in breast balance and proportion. In selected cases, fat grafting may also be discussed as an alternative, subject to medical evaluation and suitability.

Recovery Timeline

*** This information is for general guidance only. Individual results may vary depending on each patient’s condition and medical assessment. ***

Days 1–3
Swelling, tightness, and mild bruising may be most noticeable during the first few days after surgery. A support bra is commonly recommended to help provide support during early recovery.
Days 4–7
Discomfort and swelling may gradually begin to settle. Patients are usually advised to continue following the surgeon’s aftercare instructions and attend scheduled follow-up visits.
Around 1 Week
A follow-up appointment is typically arranged to assess healing progress. Depending on the surgical technique and the doctor’s plan, suture care or removal may be considered at this stage.
Weeks 2–6
The breasts may begin to look more settled as swelling continues to improve. Use of a support bra may still be recommended during this period, depending on the surgeon’s advice and individual healing progress.
Months 3–6
Results generally become more apparent over time as residual swelling continues to subside and the breasts take on a more settled appearance.

FAQs

Which silicone implant brand should I choose?
There are several globally recognized implant brands, such as Mentor and Motiva, which are commonly used in accredited hospitals worldwide. Other medical-grade implants are also widely used, depending on the hospital and the surgeon’s preference. At MedMyDay, we work with partner hospitals that use implants meeting recognized safety standards and regulatory approvals. The most suitable brand will depend on your individual anatomy, goals, and budget, and should be determined in consultation with your treating surgeon.
Do I necessarily need silicone implants?
Not necessarily. In selected cases, fat grafting (using your own body fat) may be considered as an alternative option. However, suitability depends on factors such as available donor fat, desired volume, and overall treatment goals. Outcomes may differ from implants, particularly in terms of projection and definition.
How do I know which implant size is right for me?
Implant size should be selected in consultation with a qualified surgeon, based on your body proportions and desired outcome. Key factors typically include chest width, breast base diameter, skin elasticity, and overall balance with your body frame. The surgeon will guide you in choosing an option that is appropriate and proportionate for your anatomy.
How should I take care of myself after the procedure?
Post-operative care is an important part of the recovery process. Patients are generally advised to wear a support bra for a period of time, as recommended by the surgeon. Additional aftercare instructions—such as activity restrictions or breast massage (if appropriate)—will be provided by the medical team. Following your doctor’s guidance closely is essential to support proper healing and recovery.
